And the Bitch Is Out

I love all of you guys…seriously I do…and I love every one of the comments I get…

I even love the comments that needle me…and I won’t delete them, because even if they annoy the shit out of me, it’s your opinion and the other people that comment have a right to see that you disagree with me, or think I’m a horrible mother, or in this case, what seemed to me, a white bitch…

You all remember the crash I was in? I got a comment that kind of went under my skin…and though I won’t delete it, I did respond to her, and I’m going to share what she wrote and what I wrote back…tell me if you think I’m wrong…

Just curious, do you think it would have been less traumatic if you had been hit by a US citizen with no license and no insurance?

Wow…is it just me, or did she totally call me a white bitch between the lines? And this bitch? Won’t take that sitting down…and here’s my email in response….

Hi there Mary…thanks for commenting…
It’s a funny thing about the internet..you can never tell who’s being snarky and who’s not…and though you’re comment totally came off to me in a snarky manner, I’m still going to answer you…
Yes, I do think it would have less traumatic to have been hit by a US citizen and here’s why…
the man who hit us has disappeared…since he’s illegal he had managed to change his name with no one knowing it…the address he gave the police was a PO Box, and even if it was a real PO Box, it’s already been closed down…so my insurance agency has no way of ever finding the man and trying to make him pay the more than $18,000 in damages caused to my car or the other expsenses incurred…such as my deductable, the cost for new car seats, a rental car, etc…
I surely hope you don’t think I’m some white bitch who thinks we should close down the borders, that’s the farthest from the truth, I have many friends that are getting citizenship right now, I wouldn’t be here, and probably neither would you if we didn’t allow immigrants…I do however have a problem with people coming here illegally and not taking responsibility for their actions…
Have a great holiday season Mary…

I’m so fired up right now….

But I’m totally right…right*??

*you guys better be on my side….

It sounds like she is just being anal. I find your response appropriate. I’m cuban born in the US and I would have felt the same you did if I was in the same situation. It’s like you said the lack of responsibility and no ability to track back leaving you paying for his mistake.

  2. Kimberly says:

Let her be a bitch. I’d be less pissed too. This has nothing to do with race or where someone came from but the jerk off who is skirting his responsibilities. It just so happens that the less of an American citizen you are, the easier it is for you to disappear.

That chick has a stick up her ass. *eyeroll* I’m with you.

For the record — because this IS the internet, I am all for immigrants…legal immigrants…who want to live in American and follow the rules. I have no problem with that.

  3. Ange says:

I don’t understand how you could be so nice to her. I would have totally went off on her… but that is how I am.

You are right though; it is more difficult being in a hit and run by an illegal. I say you get a gun, and next time shoot the guy in the foot or something, and then tell the cops to check all area hospitals.

Or even better, I hope there is not a “next time”.

Oh, and this Mary chick… fuck off, you are obviously not a tax payer yourself, or shit like this would bother you.

  4. By the way it doesn’t make you a “white bitch” to think people should follow the law. In fact I hate that lefty-progressive-bullshit that somehow because you follow the law, expect others to do the same, are tired of whining spoiled brats and think the money you earn belongs to you, you are somehow despicable. I dont’ apologize for fighting for my autistic children and I don’t apologize for not buying into the identity politics crap and thinking that everyone shoudl be held responsible for the choices they make in life.

    • Tracy says:

Yikes. I’m a “lefty-progressive”; I am part of the Occupy Wall Street movement; I believe in paying high taxes to support the common good (and roads, schools, post offices, street lights, education, bridges, tunnels, parks…) and I’m far FAR from a “whining spoiled brat.”. You need to calm down. Maybe watch some BBC or PBS news.

What made you assume the commenter (who made an uncalled for comment, really, in the face of a horrifying car accident) was a liberal?! Holly has a right to be upset, but you taking it to a political place is just bananas.

  5. Paula says:

    Yep…..you’re totally right.

  6. Shairbearg says:

You are right. Hoping Mary was just misunderstood.

  7. I would have been a lot less polite…There is nothing racist in saying that illegals duck the law. They do because they fear deportation. I have no issue whatsoever with people who come into this country legally, but it seems that SO many more don’t, and they do not follow the laws we have in place. Perhaps we should just close the borders for awhile and send a whole lot of people back to their home countries. (Illegals, not legal immigrants.) But I guess I am an elitist Aryan-Neo-Nazi douche-bag for saying that, right? lol…What-the-fuck-ever. You handled it much better than I would have…That’s like the person who said I am an awful human being because I eat yogurt and that I belong in the depths of hell since the cows aren’t treated well…Ummm…Yeah. Okay. Sure. Now lemme go get a nice, juicy steak while I sit here and watch Border Wars.

  8. Chandra says:

That woman is a complete moron and probably an illegal herself. Believe me, I am all for LEGAL immigration, but people like the guy who hit you and Mary should be the basis for tighten up our laws. There was a reason Arizona passed the law it did and if was a law in your state maybe he wouldn’t have been on the road. Then maybe your kids would feel safer living the American dream, you would still have your anniversary gift and your kids would gone to Disney… (I am guessing the accident put a stop to your trip…)

  9. I just love when people ASSume you mean something one certain way even though they can’t hear your tone, see your expression, etc…………

  10. I think she was a bit snarky. I don’t have a problem with anyone becoming a citizen legally, no problem with that at all. It’s those idiots on the road that don’t have insurance and lie that irritate me, doesn’t matter where they are from or what nationality they are.

*Not the Mary that was snarky* LOL

  11. Shannon says:

I would have taken what she said in the same manner. It seemed like total snark. In fact, I’m one of the lefty-progressives but I do believe that people should follow the law. It’s a shame that the fact that illegal immigrants should not all be handled the same is bullshit or whining though. I hope should they ever find this person, that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law including jail time. I hope this situation could be a learning experience that not all situations can be painted with one wide stroke.

  12. Bella says:

LMAO. I agree. I was hit a few months ago by a US citizen and was just as traumatized though when she gave me bad information and I had to pay the deductable for the damage she did. Every day I’m forced to add another person tot he list of people that piss me off.

  13. Missy says:

HOLY CRAP! Miss Mary is quite full of herself. And yeah, I totally agree with you and how you felt.

  14. It is all about responsibility not where you came from. If this person who hit you was not being completely shady then he would have given you legit info. You were in the right, it was more tramautic to be hit by an illegal immigrant that is irresponsible and shady.

  15. I think you did an excellent job of explain exactly why it makes a difference! You’ve got every right to be annoyed!

  16. becky says:

I agree with you. Especially since even if he did want to pay for the accident, he still wouldn’t come forward because he would be afraid of being deported. Don’t let it bother you! All that matters is that everyone is ok.

  17. Sarah Jo says:

Well im not sure that Miss Mary will be your friend anymore and follow your blog, *sniff sniff* I think she would have had a right if you pulled the race card. But illegals are making life harder for others when it shouldn’t be. Not only was this a traumatic thing for you and your family, but like you said there will be no one to accept responsibility for those actions that were made that day. But im sure the government will pay him for the pain that he went through that day…

  18. Molly says:

the bottom line: uninsured is unacceptable. I don’t care if you’re a citizen, an immigrant or the freaking pope people! If you are uninsured, it’s not ok to drive around.

I have a friend who was hit by someone a few weeks ago. Turns out all his info was fake, license, name, birthdate, etc. The police report had all of his info, none of it was real. She is screwed. I am pissed. and I’m mad for you too honey. It’s not ok.

  19. Lori A. says:

You’re right. I would think you’d have a better chance of hunting down a U.S. citizen with no license and no insurance than an illegal alien who is trying to fly under the radar.

  20. What a bitch. You went through enough with that horrifying car accident and for someone to assume that you are being racist/a bigot/whatever is appalling. I love how people can sit behind their computer screens and be so rude. Screw her. I totally agree with you.
I had my first car accident when I was 17. An illegal hit me as well, with his car full of kids not wearing seat belts while he was speeding down the street and came out of no where. I was terrified and totally pissed and am now petrified to make put into traffic going left because of it. They could never find him either.

  21. Judith says:

I live in AZ. You don’t have to ask where I stand.

  22. Holy CRAP!!! I hope Mary get’s the clap.

It rhymed… I had to go with it.

    Connie
(I have to add you were soooo much nicer in your reply than I would have been)

  23. Ilisa Ailts says:

You go girl! I love your blog and your honesty and yes, I agree with you! It is a complex matter, not a race matter.

  24. Ally says:

Yeah – on your side. I was hit by someone who gave false insurance info. That was frustrating enough. But at least she was traceable through her driver’s license!

  25. Kelli Goede says:

    Totally agree with you!

  26. Becky Willis says:

Of course I agree with you! Cause well you are Holly! and I think your shit is the hit!

  27. Crazed Mama says:

Great response!! Did she have anything to say in return? Doubtful that she could come up with a half ways intelligent response.

  28. stacy says:

    Hi Holly,
I have been following you for such a short time, and I love you, really. When I read your post about the accident I of course was shivering and had tears in my eyes. Was so glad that you and your family was safe.

Maybe Mary wrote kind of in the heat of the moment instead of thinking that she does not know how you feel about immigrants, etc. When I read the word ‘illegal immigrant’ did stand out to me, but (just being completely honest!) just because there are illegal immigrants that I care about and some that have luckily been able to get a green card. But I do not judge you and can not possibly know how that translates into your beliefs about illegal immigrants, and honestly it doesn’t matter; the point is you and your family are safe; and what stuck with me was your kids, the trauma they are recovering from, the way an accident is such a strange event, how on any day you could have left early and not had an accident and ever know that a minute later would mean an accident and unfortunately sometimes the opposite happens, it is so strange, and you kind of mentioned that, which had me thinking.

But, curious, do you have to pay more than your deductible? If you are fully insured, whether the insurance company finds the guy should be completely their problem, right? And am not feeling so bad for insurance companies as they make plenty of money.

(this is more for some of the commenters, not you, who really did seem so convinced that illegal immigrants (in general) could have had no legit reason for being here, though, OF COURSE, there is no excuse for hit and run, ever!)
I feel strongly that it is too hard for people from some countries to immigrate legally and often the illegal immigrants are not even the ones that chose to come (maybe it was their parents that took them over, for example, and now they are older), but even many of those that choose to come illegally I do not judge, because I am so sheltered here from the life they might be coming from. It might be break the law or not be able to keep your children alive or fed.. I might choose the former also. (this is only in general , not in your case where the guy basically put your family in such danger and did not own up to it)

  29. Deana ~ AWU says:

I’m going to like it here.. LOL! I don’t think you are wrong.. and have a valid point. I do however agree with most of what Stacy stated above though.. as some words can just strike people wrong, especially via the internet. It’s important we try to convey our thoughts exactly as they are, although I don’t think you intentionally used the term “illegal” to group, rather a form of description.

  30. Deanna says:

I am 110% on your side here. What a bitch.

  31. Laura says:

    You are totally right!

  32. Tiffany says:

I think your response was perfect. Of course!
